YOUNG SPORTSMEN associated with Sargeant's United and Rendezvous Sports Clubs, both from Christ Church, have 30 reasons to smile very broadly.
That's because they were recently presented with that number of shirts by businessman Taan Abed, who has been supporting sporting teams in the community for the past eight years. Present for the presentation was manager of the Rendezvous Sports Club, Richard Greene, as well as youthful members of the organisation. Greene thanked Abed for his continued generosity. Abed said it was his pleasure to assist the cricket team and added that sports played an important role in imparting discipline in the lives of young people. He said cricket could prove to be the foundation for their future success if sports was the avenue they intended to pursue. He encouraged the youngsters always to strive for excellence and to give of their best every time they ventured onto the field. He also noted that their behaviour was equally important. Abed, who is an aspiring politician, told the youngsters they should see themselves as sports ambassadors, since they would be judged by their peers on and off the field. (WG) |
